Your Unique Hobby at Iowa Craft Shows

By Peter Schaub

One of the more unique things about being human is the desire to have a hobby. A good number of people have an interest in sports; they join teams and clubs in the High School and gain recognition from physical prowess. Others are fond of mental exercises and fond of studying; they are firm in their belief that a straight A grade will get them into the University they desire.

Of course, there are those, like me, who excel in the fine arts or craft making. We take pride in seeing our ideas come into physical form and shape from raw materials, be it a sculpture, a canvas, unique pieces of jewelry or bending wires to form figures. There's a satisfaction when someone praises our work and our talents. When someone gives you high regard, the emotions you feel from the compliments are a natural high.

Thus, people like me who are into arts and crafts are always keeping an eye out for craft shows to join. I discovered there are countless opportunities in fairs such as these to showcase my wares to a larger number of people in the American Heartland. I just have to manage my time a bit better, as I am a student, a farmer's son and an aspiring artisan now.

If you are the same as I am, and you're on the lookout for a decent craft show to set up a booth in, all you have to do is look for the information you need on the Information Superhighway (also known as the Internet). With a bit of poking around, you'll be directed to websites that will list all the scheduled craft fairs in Iowa.

Once you find your way around, you just have to contact the administrators of the event. Sometimes this is done via e-mail, but if you can find a way to talk to them personally, then you should go for that option. - 15246
