The Big 2009 Chiropractic Marketing Myth

By Matthew Loop DC

Chiropractors are being fed some major untruths about marketing, and I feel the need to set the record straight so that no one else falls into the trap. When chiropractors give into this lie, they can see their practice suffer huge consequences in the face of present innovations and changes.

While I was reading this months current issue of a major chiropractic publication, I came across and "advertisement" that basically stated that social media and internet marketing for chiropractors is dead. I had to take a second look because I thought surely no researched person or marketing authority would be that ignorant to voice such a comment.... but there it was.

When I saw that it was true, it became very clear to me that this was some ploy to garner attention for their own marketing methods that they then plan to sell to chiropractors for a huge sum on money. Its ironic, when you consider that the very thing theyre making bogus claims about is the actual key to chiropractic marketing success in 2009. They want you to believe that the golden days of social media marketing for chiropractors has come and gone, but they really want to side-track chiropractors away from methods that are immensely effective, and unlike this sneaky marketing group, totally free.

Frankly, those ridiculous claims make this consulting group look foolish and outdated! Only an unqualified "expert" would say that the internet and social media are dead. I mean, look at how Barack Obama won the presidency by a landslide. His closest campaign advisers credited the viral aspects of social networking, video marketing, and other types of social media for his astonishing rise so fast. I could literally list hundreds of examples here.

If chiropractors across America knew how much more freedom and flexibility that Web 2.0 and social media marketing would allow them, then theyd all be jumping aboard. You cant be responsible for every aspect of your practice, because youre a specialized expert, but you can devote as little as a half hour a day to social media marketing, and quickly and powerfully brand your practice in your community, driving many new patients through your doors each month.

This kind of magic doesnt happen overnight, however. My practice took a fair amount of time, effort, and experimentation to get the online marketing to do its magic for me. Posting one video on YouTube isnt going to transform your bottom line overnight, but consistent effort will create the viral marketing power that youre looking for. A virus is something that keeps spreading and spreading, and thats exactly whats going to happen online with social media marketing. No marketing group is going to tell you that, because theyd rather take all your money and continue with their tried and true one size fits all methods of marketing.

So, where should you start in the virtual chiropractic marketing world? Well, I recommend starting with video since it was the biggest marketing tool in 2008 and will continue to explode this year. Chiropractic video marketing allows your audience to get to know you and see that you are a real person. They feel at home with you before they even walk-though your door. You can't put a price-tag on that type of rapport building and social proof so early on.

Authenticity sells these days. If you sound scripted and look like a piece of plastic you'll not attract anyone to your chiropractic office. That's what I feel many doctors do not understand about video marketing and social media. It's about being genuine, real, and forging solid relationships built on trust. If you can do that, you'll have a consistent stream of new patients no matter what the economy is doing. - 15246
