Find Your Hidden Talent For Marketing

Why do we hear the word marketing and it is such a turn off? It is instantly associated with selling which you want to avoid like the plague. Would you look forward to marketing if it was about creating meaningful relationships that allow you to be of service to others?

Unconscious thoughts are very powerful. Become aware of those by writing your answer to the statement, "Marketing is..." What ways to you resist or feel dread about promoting your business? Do you not like talking about yourself and your gifts? Do you create an instant visual of an overeager salesperson at the mall trying to buff your cuticles? Perhaps you don't like to be in a partnership and want a solo venture. Creating awareness about your present thoughts and feelings by writing them down is vital to shift your future thinking.

Attracting new clients is fun when you reach are able to share your gift and fill an existing need. Marketing is not about saying, "I should" but about creating new methods or using existing outreach techniques without resistance. When you communicate how you can serve others in an ethical and authentic way, it becomes effortless.

Take the example of Sue, a graphic designer. She understands the importance of a great logo and knows it is a valuable service she gives her clients. When Sue does the job well, the logo gives customers an initial understanding of the business and leaves them with a visual impression.

Next, Sue can create a deeper understanding of her creative process for her clients. She needs to explain her gift for creating concrete images from huge dreams and vague ideas. Sue does that by careful listening combined, spending time getting to know her clients and using her intuition about what is important. The result is a one of a kind company logo.

What if Sue became an expert in logo redesign? Positioning yourself as an expert by defining your unique gifts and paying attention to what you enjoy doing more than anything is crucial. It allows you to eliminate the competition and find a unique position in the marketplace. Then let your creative juices flow in terms of outreach!

What could Sue do to attract clients?

1. Give a free workshop on business card redesign one time per month. That would be a way to attract new clients, get to know people in her local community for future referrals and continue to position herself as an expert.

5. Attract new clients by offering a 30% off special for logo redesign for 60 days and then redesign her website to be consistent with the promotion.

Outreach and marketing can be fun if you find at least 5 strategies that match your personality, that are fun and will allow you to reach many people. Those people will grow and change for the better by getting to know you and your unique gifts. You will be doing what you love and have the chance to share your talent with others.
